Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

In line with best practice prescribing guidelines for patient safety, it is the policy of Barrowview Medical Practice that all requests for repeat medications must be made in writing.  This policy is in place to:

    Ensure maximum patient safety

Ensure that patients are aware of the medications they require

    Unnecessary medications are not prescribed

    Ensure maximum patient safety

This can be done by either completing the re-order form. (You will have received this sheet with your last prescription).  The order sheet or a written request may be emailed, faxed, posted or placed in the red prescription box at the reception desk.

We require a minimum of 72 Hours to process your request, so that your doctor will have sufficient time review you file.

Regular reviews are essential if you are on medication, to ensure it is working effectively and that you are not experiencing unwanted side effects.

If you have not been seen recently, your doctor may request that you make a review appointment before preparing your prescription.

A fee will normally apply for repeat prescriptions issued for private patients between appointments.  There is no fee for patients with a full medical card.

Please note the practice email service is not a suitable medium for general medical questions.

Please phone the surgery directly regarding medical queries so that we can best help you.

During the present health emergency there is a high volume of telephone calls.   We would ask our patients co-operation and patience at this time.

*Please note – This email is checked once daily. This area is specifically dedicated to repeat prescriptions requests only.
